Just a reminder folks. I usually pick up two hams the week or two AFTER Easter -- the stores overstock and sometimes they really mark them down -- especially the pricey spiral hams. Two years ago I picked up a Smithfield pecan praline spiral glazed ham for .69 cents per pound. I make fabulous soup from the bone as well as save large chunks in the freezer to cook later with vegetables or potatoes.
Sometimes I find some great leg of lamb prices too -- but you usually have to cook those right away. Check daily in the discounted meat section. Once I even found a super pricey boneless prime rib roast with a one day past due date -- took it home and cooked it for dinner and froze the leftovers. Wow was that delicious!
My store definitely didn't overstock. I went grocery shopping yesterday afternoon, and they were completely wiped out of hams. Luckily, I didn't need one.
LOL, I wouldn't wish that one anyone. I get to a store once every 7~10 days with occasional longer stretches. Blame it on the ~2 hour round trip drive, but the same was true when I lived 2 blocks from my main store.
Still, I'll watch for sales. Have a big, partially empty, freezer...

thanks we too like to pick one up on sale. In fact the one we are having today I got on sale after some other holiday. As for the Leg or Lamb, why do you say must be cooked right away.? We buy them as well as Lamb chops on sale and stick them in the freezer.
I buy spiral cut hams for $0.49-0.79. What is funny is that while there are eight Kroger's stores between my home and my volunteer activities, there is only one that marks down all of their meats deeply immediately after holidays. I will be down there tomorrow looking for great deals.

Usually the leg of lambs are one day past their sale date -- I just prefer to cook them right away, have one good meal from them and FREEZE the cooked leftover meat. Just being cautious -- just my preference. The hams are different as they are smoked and have a much much longer shelf life.

Same. Evidently, they'd overstocked at Christmas, and weren't gonna duplicate that. We had two frozen, so it was fine.
0.29/lb at my local store on spiral sliced ham. I loaded up the butt portions and paid under $5/ham. Freezes nicely.
