Tuna is packed in olive oil, everything else tastes like cat food to me. Packed in water? Bleh. I always buy the genovese cans at Costco. I guess it all comes down to preference, although I can’t for the life of me understand how you could prefer a product that sucks the moisture off of your tongue.
My question is why do Americans make tuna with mayo? It is repulsive. Italians and other Mediterraneans eat tuna made with olive oil. Many top tier Italian tuna brands store tuna in oil. Don't drain it! Use it for making tna and simply season it up!
The same reason we use it to make chicken salad, egg salad, potato salad, ham salad, macaronI salad, etc.
We aren't the only country that uses mayonnaise as a binder in prepared salads, either.

I was on a motorcycle tour in northern Italy and one of my riding group ordered an item for lunch which was identified on the menu as 'Mayonnaise Salad', it turned out to be what Americans would call potato salad.
No doubt, Americans are big on mayonnaise. Growing up Italian, I never even tasted mayonnaise until I was almost a teenager. My mother won't even try it.
I switched from tuna in oil to tuna in water at some point because I was told it was healthier. But I later switched back to tuna in oil as the tuna in water seems to irritate my acid reflux tendency more than the tuna in oil (which also tastes better IMHO).
BTW, not everyone eats tuna with oil or mayonnaise. For example, in Israel one can buy tuna in a light tomato sauce which tends to have a light spicy taste.
I bought four cans of tuna. I usually don't eat it but I put it in mac n cheese. I'd love to try the oil kind, but i stay away from oil
