I haven't seen the movie, but a bio I read said that Ray Kroc met the McDonald brothers when he was working his territory as a salesman for milk shake mixers (the ones with the rotary stem and holder for the cup). Why would a salesman for mixers try to talk a customer out of using them? Artistic license?

McDonald's shakes were real and tasted better 30 years ago. Now it tastes fake and there's crap in them.

By 1971 McDs had already converted to the machines that dispensed frozen "shake" mix (not real ice cream) into cups to which they added syrup for strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla. A seaweed derivative called carrageenan took the place of the cream and thickened the shake while keeping the ice crystals small. The shake cups were then blended briefly on a mixer to stir the syrup into the base mix. Some years later they changed over to machines that dispensed the flavor of the shake directly into the cup -- no mixing needed.

There was a lot of time between the two "events", i.e. the meeting and changing to a mix. By the time he recommended changing to a mix, the restaurants had already begun booming. Kroc was far from a salesman by then.
