Missouri Casserole. Which was raw hamburger, sliced onions, sliced potatoes and canned tomatoes in layers baked in a Pyrex casserole. I hated it.

Also, my mom was convinced that fish was brain food so she’d buy frozen haddock in a box which I’d find floating in the kitchen sink to defrost when I got home from school and I knew I was doomed.
Dotted with margarine and a few squirts of reconstituted lemon juice and baked to within an inch of its life.

And if that wasn’t bad enough she’d bake cannedstewed tomatoes in a casserole with cubed wonder bread on top.

Horrible.

After the first taste, I refused to eat all of these:

Kidneys
Bread soup
Lamb chops

Just disgusting.

baked beans....the aroma of them cooking reminded me of a spring day on a farm after spreading manure.... and the taste lived up to the scent..

Liver and onions - the thought still gags me (and I wouldn't eat it then either) - she also did sweet potatoes w/all the marshmallows, etc. - took me many, many yrs. to try sweet potatoes again after that. (we won't get into that my mother thinks she's a GREAT cook but......)

When my mom ran out of dinner ideas she tended to cook sausage into hockey pucks, and heat up a can of hominy. I hate hominy to this day, although I can tolerate it in posole. Another thing she’d do every so often is cook yellow squash and sort of mash it. Of course it looked like vomit, and I hated even looking at it.

How sad. Few American cooks master the four food groups : salt, sugar, grease, and vinegar.

There was something called Chipped Beef Patty? I may have the name wrong. It was a frozen "beef" patty thing, with a pat of butter. I remember telling my Mom I didn't like it, and of course "you eat it or nothing" so I ate it, and threw it up. It had gristle or something, which to this day, makes me gag.

I've always been kinda squeamish about meat in general.
