I always keep an old Omaha Steaks cooler in my trunk. It will keep the vegetables cool for a number of hours in the Arizona sun. I did the same thing when I lived in Chicago. I might buy something at lunch and stick it in the cooler where it was kept warm enough NOT to freeze.

I do NOT generally use ice packs unless I will be out for 3-4 hours and I have some perishable items.

I like the ice packs you can get at Dollar stores. Or just use an empty bottle & fill it with water (3/4 fill) & freeze it for the cooler. If that is too much work for you, then learn to like wilted produce.
