I was basically raised with potatoes at nearly every meal. That plus being married to a "meat and potatoes" guy we have potatoes at almost every meal. I do try to make a variety of potatoe dishes but we seem to fall back to the mashed potatoes a lot of the time. I make some killer mashed potatoes if I do say so myself! It's probably the one thing I can make really well. Been making them for a lifetime now!

How do you do them my friend? I make good ones also BUT I use a lot of butter so they aren't really "good" for you.

Definitely rice.

I grew up more on potatoes, though.

My DD loves rice, and doesn't seem to like potatoes that much.

And my DH doesn't like pasta that much.

Myself, I'd have potatoes every day.

But, as for long term shelf life, can't beat rice and pasta.

OMG, bread!

Yes, bread. I love bread! With butter, of course. And not wonder bread. Nice, crusty loaves cut thick and slathered with butter. Or warmed in the oven. Mmmmm.......

My mother makes fresh bread for holidays. We gobble it up as fast as we can. We love it more than the turkey.

I had a cheap bread maker that broke almost immediately. This reminds me that I've got to get a better one and start making my own bread.

Dominant carb for many of us is bread, i.e., wheat.

For me, it's Whole Wheat, found in: breakfast cereals, breads, even waffles.

White flour is almost totally devoid of nutrition or fiber, so I avoid it like the plague that it is.

My usual cereals are Shredded Wheat (which comes in several varieties) and Raisin Bran.

My usual breads are always 100% stone ground whole wheat, though sometimes I will make a Reuben, corned beef or pastrami sandwich on a good rye bread.

One form of carb that is especially deadly is beer.

I gotta admit, some of my favorite foods are lasagna and spaghetti, with a side of garlic texas toast of coarse . I do eat pasta WAY too much.

I'm not a big rice lover so I seldom eat it, unless maybe it's creole red beans and rice.

I was raised by two parents who were themselves raised by Southern parents, so rice predominated then as it does now. I can't recall that last time I prepared potatoes of any kind. Even my hot cereal choice is Cream of Rice, and the stuff I pour on cold cereal is rice milk.
