Quoting from the article:
...."For overall mortality, 11 percent of deaths in men and 16 percent of deaths in women could be prevented if people decreased their red meat consumption ....."
Well, that's good news. I always thought that the death rate was 100%.
The longer you live, the more apt you are to have some sort of senile dementia.
I'll cut down...one of these days.
Until then, I'll work out a bit more to try to balance it out.
I've cut back on my bacon and my burgers so it's not as bad as it used to be.
Just wait long enough, and red meat will be a health food again. I'm betting on somebody needing to publish to keep funding or something, based on past observation of how these things go through the revolving door.
How many times have we heard of the perils of red meat, while midwest farmers eat beef most days of the week and live to be a ripe old age? I knew an old German guy in NY who ate red meat and sausage most days, had two mugs of beer with dinner every night, smoked cigars, and lived to be in his mid 90's. I think genetics is the key. While I wouldn't recommend a diet of hot dogs, bacon and sausage, I don't believe beef is any more dangerous than fish (mercury) or non-organic veggies (pesticides). Eat what you want in moderation, enjoy life a little, it doesn't last forever.
