Yeah, I know some folks don't like them. Please don't lecture those of us who do.

For those of us who do, what do you pile into your to-go container?

I like romaine, radishes, baby corn, spinach, carrots, cucumber, diced tomatoes, red onions, shredded cheese, boiled eggs, red cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, diced chicken or turkey, chow mein noodles, dressing.

I usually go for the soup instead. But the best choice for dessert is a nice fruit salad. Green leafy, topped with several fruita and a few nuts, cottage cheese, and bleu cheese dressing.

None of the salad bars I know allow to go containers, but when I do hit a salad bar, I start with mixed greens, add a few little mounds of mac salad, seafood salad, tricolor pasta, some bacon bits, croutons, a drizzle of house dressing, and some parmesan cheese.

My salads at home are totally different - I prefer something like baby spinach topped with crumbled bleu cheese, dried cranberries, and candied walnuts tossed in a homemade balsamic vinaigrette. Mixed baby greens topped with crumbled feta, toasted hazelnuts, and julienned pickled beets tossed with a raspberry vinaigrette.

To start, I mix lettuce with spinach. I also mix cheeses if more than 1 is offered. I add eggs, bacon (if it's real), onions, ham, tomatoes, turkey, jalapenos and black olives. I guess I'm some kind of mixing nut, because I'll put both ranch and 1000 island dressings on!

It's rare for me, but I really like the italian dressing at Pizza Hut so I indulge occasionally. Then it's lettuce (I stand there forever trying to shake off as many of the little carrot slices as possible because I hate them), broccoli, cucumbers, kidney beans, peas, beets, and cheese smothered in creamy italian dressing.

I also like Ruby Tuesdays and I get mixed greens, spinach, chickpeas, peas, beets, sunflower seeds, the variety of cheese they offer and the pumpernickel croutons. I top it off with ranch dressing and then add a spoonful of german potato salad, cucumber salad and pasta salad on the side.

Do most of you not have them in the grocery stores? I thought it was just Texas that didn't have grocery store salad bars.

I love, love, love the Whole Foods salad bar. I get mixed greans, artichoke hearts, pees, roasted veggies, chicken salad, and lots of beets!

Can't go too often though cuz it gets expensive!

Sweet Tomatoes/Soup Plantation...yum. Their soups are very good. I usually get the caesar or greek salads. My DD looooves the "Chicken Wonton Happiness".....Also, love their cornbread - had whole corn kernels - with honey butter mmmmm. Obviously, my choices do not make this a low-cal trip so we don't do it too often!

Lettuce, cherry tomatoes, ham, cheese, bacon bits, croutons and piles of blue cheese.
I don't eat salad to be healthy....I eat it to ENJOY the great taste.
