Once the front wheels came up that far he pretty much lost any chance of winning or even turning in a good time. All the more reason to stay off the throttle at that point.

Edit: I just watched the video again. Is it possible that the front end bounced back up, and maybe throttle wasn't completely at fault? I've wheelied enough vehicles to know that snapping off the throttle isn't necessarily a good idea, so maybe he was trying to let the front end down easy, and got caught by the bounce.

Good point, it could have been a bounce and the airflow just took over from there.
