It seems a little high to me, but if she's doing everything right, using a low rolling resistance tire, short-shifting, and making mostly long but slow trips in warm weather, it's not impossible.

Agreed. They always get into trouble when people who really know these cars call them out on their ignorance.

I do know her but not well. If we ran into each other in china or wherever we would say hello & have small talk. Ill get more info about her 63 falcon this weekend providing shes working. She knows i drive a 85 olds thats a gas guzzler & has seen my boat of a car. Ill also ask her if she owns a 69 ford torino.

The Slant 6 is a good engine... I have several.

Can't think of a single benefit to putting one in a Falcon.
the slant six wont fit the falcon, without serious mods similar to what would be needed to install a big block. you would also need to clearance the firewal as the slant six is too long to fit under the falcon hood.

And most importantly why do a swap that gains no real benefit...having an "engine" sitting around isn't a good enough reason in most cases, simply because the work necessary would negate the gains of using the engine...They'd be better off swapping a 289 into the Falcon for more power, or a modern four cylinder, but a Chrysler Slant Six just seems terribly unlikely. It would make sense that the owner knows the car has an inline six in it, and has at some point made a connection between inline six and the slant six found in Chrysler products, and as such isn't representing her vehicle correctly.

Short answer to your question as you've seen, it's totally possible to get 30+ mpg with an old car...and it was even advertised as that...imagine, people actually did care about fuel economy even though gas was $0.16/gallon.

For whatever reason, Detroit's reaction to the sensible fuel efficient foreign car was to make their cars as large and wasteful as possible. Those folks who don't believe a Ford of the 60's could actually get decent mileage likely have only known Detroit from their wretched excesses.

I hear she didn't use a cherry picker either during the install. I think the Torino used to belong to Clint Eastwood as well.

I would like to have a '65 Falcon Wagon with a 170 or 200 cid six in front of a five spd manual tranny. Replace the head with a hemi from aussiland, remount the front top control arms, good shocks, stiff sway bars and disc brakes all around. The would be an practical and economical vehicle. It would also be a lot of fun to drive.
