Maybe because he was smart enough--like me--to buy Ford stock several years ago, when the share price had bottomed out. As of yesterday, I had a 12% gain in the share price, and then there is also the dividend. While a 2% dividend is not spectacular, it sure beats bank interest rates.
Well, I think Toyota makes the best hybrids. If they patented their hybrid technology so that only they could make cars with it, it's prudent that Ford licenses their tech so they can make proper hybrids. GM should also license Toyota's hybrid technology, because all GM hybrids stink!
But all this wouldn't have happened if Ford or GM hired me to be a Mech Eng developing their hybrid cars, back in the early 90's. My idea for a hybrid car was to power the car with an IC engine with sufficient power to move the car, and then the electric motor would be the power boost sufficient enough to get it going under low speeds and for a power boost going up hills and accelerating. Toyota developed the hybrid system I was dreaming of, but I never got to be an automotive engineer.
