He put it back on, that isnt a clue that it needs to be there?

Temporarily you can, if your intent is to use seafoam.


It's a vacuum hose, drawing oil-laden air from the upper valve cover area out and into the throttle body to get ingested by the engine.


If you remove it when engine running, you'll have a vacuum leak, and engine may run rough. Should return to normal when you reinstall the line.
