Do people feel that it has seriously declined over the years? Or is it still popular amongst kids? Do you let your kids trick or treat in the neighborhoods? Or do you keep them indoors?

I am in my late 20's and I remember every Halloween the streets would be full with kids and pretty much every house would give out candy with few exceptions. I remember filling up a large pillow case to the brim with candy by the end of the night. I would say during my high school years (mid to late 90's) the number of kids trick or treating declined precipitously. After a while, my parents stopped even buying candy because hardly any kids would come to the door. It seemed like in a matter or 4-5 years it declined drastically. I imagine this was due to crime and safety issues with so many child abductions becoming more prevalent.

What are your thoughts? How was Halloween this year?

My neighbors and I ran out of candy last night, we had so many t&t'ers. It was constant. We live in the Plantation Isles neighborhood.

I think it may depend on the neighborhood especially whether it's gated (mine is not).

Tons of trick or treaters in Cooper City (Embassy Lakes). Kids had a blast!

This is my second year in Plantation Acres and we have not gotten a single trick or treater.

When we lived in Weston (Savanna) we got loads of kids every year. In fact, my son went to Weston to trick or treat with his friends there.

We went through ten bags of candy, probably around 250 TOT'rs. That is not as many as in years past. Usually we're at 350-400. We saw more babies and more teens than usual. It seemed like the smallest group was the ones you'd expect the most of, elementary school age. I suspect many went to planned events because rain was predicted.

I have to say, I was impressed by all the teens. All of them were polite and even chatty. They wished us a Happy Halloween or a great evening and complimented our Jack O' Lanterns. It was very nice to see them being kids again and having such a good time.

Savanna in Weston has been and still is one of the most popular trick-o-treating developments. There are long lines at the gate to get into Savanna on Oct 31st. I think this year was just as good as prior years.

I keep on forgetting to ask you - where in Savanna did you live? I used to live on Sunflower Circle in Preserve 1.

I lived in The Marshes on Peregrine Way. My son went to WHCC to trick or treat. He is still friends with the kids he went to elementary school with at Imagine Charter.

Are child abductions becoming more prevalent? I thought you were not into spreading paranoia.
