I am planning on relocating to the Ft. Lauderdale area shortly. Facts about me are as follows:

Single male
mid 20s
should have about 50K+/-3
Interested in nightlife and beaches
I live an active lifestyle, play sports/workout
job location on Las Olas just west of rt. 1

I have never been to Ft. Lauderdale and have a limited amount of time to "shop" around for places to live. My job is requiring me to relocate so I am just looking for some advice as to some good areas to live in for a person like myself.

Thanks in advance.

Look for an extended stay hotel in the area. They offer a larger room, kitchen and allow you to stay without a lease. This way, you will be able to look around AFTER you arrive and hopefully will not make a mistake and move somewhere you will hate.

Las Olas beach area is a fun place for singles, the Elbo Room might be something for you to check out.

You did not mention price range or if you will be renting or buying but I am going to guess renting. Check out the rentals in Zip code 33301 to see if something fits your needs.

I am planning on renting. What is a reasonable price range for rent for the area? Also, if i chose an extended stay hotel, what might I expect to pay per month?

Extended stays are super expensive. You'll pay around $3000 for an entire month assuming a nightly rate of $100. You could get one if necessary, but I would only plan on staying as short a time period as possible. How far in advance of your job are you coming down?

Las Olas is the best area and is walkable from your job. The downside is that rent is expensive. The cheapest Las Olas area buildings are currently going for $1550+ for a 1 BR. You can live further away from downtown, but you'll still pay $1100+ for the closest apartment complexes. The further away you go into the suburbs, the cheaper the rents, but I haven't seen much under $1000 anywhere around here recently for something decent.

If your job is in Las Olas so this area has all night life you are looking for. You can find smth around this area, downtown, or you prefer quiet place to live. it depends on your priorities and how much you want to spend. I am a realtor so if you need some help, let me know.

Yes, an extended stay hotel is expensive, but if you sign a lease and end up in a place you absolutely hate or even worse don't feel safe in...what would your thoughts be then?

When my wife and I used to stay in Fort Lauderdale on vacation, I would often ask the staff where they lived and what we found out was that most of them shared apartments with 2 or 3 others to be close to the beach. Most were in their mid 20's to early 30's...and of course sharing an apartment was the only way they could afford to live close to the beach.

I would still recommend the extended stay hotel, for it allows you the option of taking your time and finding something you like.

There are cheaper options. He can find a short term rental for 1-2 months for $800-900. It would be much cheaper than an extended stay. Even if the place is below average, it would buy him enough time to find a long term place. Even if he has to sleep on a mattress on the floor it would be worth the savings.

I have a friend who recently had an identical situation. He moved here for a job and had only 1 week to search for apartments. He couldn't find anything that quickly for a permanent place, but found a guy willing to rent him a decent place for $800. All he had to commit for was 1 month up front and a small security deposit.
