Hello, possibly relocating from the Metro NY area to Miami. Looking at Cooper City for safety and schools. What is the rush hour commute like from Cooper City to the airport where my husband's office is near? Thanks for any input!

Assuming you're talking about the Miami airport, the rush hour commute from Cooper City will easily take him from one hour to one hour and a half. First, you have to get out of Cooper City to get onto one of the highways that will take you to Miami like Florida's turnpike or I-75 and then good luck getting to the airport. But, since you guys are coming from NY, you will be able to survive Miami's jungle.

I would say during traffic hours probably 1 1/2 hours, without traffic 50-60 minutes depending how far west you will live also and how close to the airport your husband will work.

If your priority is safety and schools, then also consider Weston cuz it's easier to get from Weston to MIA airport than from CC to MIA airport. Although, you won't be able to avoid Palmetto or Dolphin Expwy or Okeechobee RD - real stressful traffic we're talking about here.

Will your husband be working in the Blue Lagoon area?

Thanks for the replies! 1.5 hour! Yikes. His current commute by car here in NJ is 1 hour which he is already miserable with.

Alex - yes it is the Blue Lagoon complex.

Main priority is safety. I realize South Florida varies by mile! I have elementary school aged kids, so schools are important but I would be ok with private schooling. Neighborhood safety though is my primary concern.

I wouldn't say that necessarily. Depending on where you are in each city the only difference would be if you are approaching 75 from the east or the west. Neither one is a good choice during rush hour.

When they finish the Palmetto construction in 2035 the commute will probably be a little easier.

I think still, if you live, say, in The Ridges in Weston, you can be on I-75 South within 5 minutes if you take Griffin Road. And you have US-27 as a backup (also 5 min from The Ridges).

I think from the parts of Cooper City that are the closest to I-75, you will have more traffic and a number of lights (I would say you will need 15 minutes to get to I-75)...
I wonder if it would be better to take Flamingo South all the way to Palmetto...

I normally don't bring up Miami Lakes... But it is a nice town and may be a better option for going to Blue Lagoon.

Other than that... OP may want to look at Coral Gables/Pinecrest.

Yes Miami Lakes would be a better option or Pembroke Pines or Miramar. Those areas have some decent schools to you just have to do some research on what parts.
