My mom passed in March and I just sold her condo. They want all the keys to the condo which is no problem. When it comes to the mailbox key I tried a few that I thought was the one and I can't get a key in the lock. Does usps lock the boxes so you can't get a key in and what do I tell the agents and new owner?

Contact the local post office first, they will usually change the lock.

I am assuming it is the common mailbox where the post office employee puts in a key to open a whole series of boxes at one time. Here is what to do, I would ask one of the Agents involved in the sale to pick up a new mailbox lock and key for about $5.00 in a Home Depot/Lowes. Have the agent find out when the carrier delivers the mail to the condo and go there at that time to change out the old lock. The old lock will come off sometimes by hand or by using a wrench. Take the old one off and put the new one on in a few minutes. Second choice would be to call a locksmith to do the same thing.

I do know at Home Depot mail box locks are 5 bucks really cheap. You can either wait until the mail man comes so he one it or drill out the lock and change it yourself. A locksmith or anyone else would charge you just to come out.
