My family is moving to Ft Lauderdale area for my husbands work and could use some guidance as to nice, upscale family friendly areas to live.

We have a 9 month old daughter and plan to have more children. I'm a stay-at-home mom and we're moving from a very safe, pretty, quintessential New England town in Connecticut and looking for something that feels similar in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Our plan is to rent first before we buy.

My husband's office will be in Las Olas and we want to keep his commute under 30 minutes if possible. Doing internet research I've heard that Weston, Plantation and Boca are all nice places for families. Is that accurate?

I'm interested in all of the information I can get about moving our family to Florida.

Thanks!
Why not rent in the area? I would look at Rio Vista and Victoria Park.

Both are extremely family friendly and your husband could come home from work to have lunch with you.

Since schools aren't an issue yet, I would get your husband closer to his job to improve the family's quality of life. An hour plus of commuting a day can really diminish your quality of life.

For the record the fastest I've ever made it to Weston from Las Olas is 40 minutes and I was frantically racing my friend out to the Cleveland Clinic.

You are also just minutes from the beaches and both neighborhoods are very walkable. Some areas of Victoria Park are also walkable to Las Olas.

The only downside is that both are expensive. I don't know what your budget is but single family homes in this area start at around $3000 a month and that's not really a great home either.

Parkland is probably the only community in the entire South Florida metropolitan area that even remotely resembles a quintessential New England town, mostly due to the fact there are more trees relative to most communities in South Florida, giving the area slightly more of a wooded feel. Also, there are a few horse farms in the area, and lot sizes (at least west of 441 and east of University Drive) are quite large by South Florida standards.
I think Weston has more trees than Parkland

Rio, Vista, Lighthouse point, Victoria Park. However you will have to pay for private school in SFL unless you live in Boca, Weston or Parkland. Boca would be a closer than Weston or Parkland commute wise.

Parkland is very nice too, but not such a straight commute to Fort Lauderdale.

BTW my wife is from Woodbridge, CT. We love Weston since 2000 when we moved here.
I know this is an older post, but ironically, my husband and I live in Woodbridge, CT and are thinking of relocating to the Weston area in August!

Wow, small world! My mother-in-law just sold her Woodbridge house, it's on Mulberry St.

Weston? Good choice! Seriously, it is a great town.
