Guys,

I and my husband (Gay couple) just bought a house on Oakland Park - NW 40th STreet (East from 95).
How is the neighborhood?
Some people say it is changing for the better and some people say it is dangerous. We live in NYC right now.

Any input would be great!

Thanks,

Rapha

You're asking after you bought?

How far East of I-95? It varies.

Where did you buy? That's a very big area.

Hopefully it's not just east of I-95 but also east of Dixie Highway.

The area seems to be gentrifying and most new homes seem to be purchased by gay couples priced out of Wilton Manors. I’ve seen some of the responses on this forum of OP and it doesn’t seem deserving of the disdain.

My family member’s realtor highly recommended North Andrews Gardens as one of the larger, nicer and up and coming areas. That’s where they ended up and it seems to be like a typical middle class area filled with hardworking people. Almost every new purchase is a gay couple. I can’t speak to NW 40th, though (or did you mean NE 40th?).

Either way, I can’t believe how many of the older homes are being redone and modernized. You don’t see rapid gentrification like that in most areas of the northeast.

A google search shows NW 40th Street only runs a few blocks between Andrews and Powerline.
In doing a google earth search... it doesn't look as bad as I imagined...but I personally would not live there.
Perhaps you're more familiar?

Actually I know a great Corvette mechanic who lives on that stretch. Also it is around the corner from Catfish Dewey's. It is not bad there, but nothing spectacular either.

I work on Andrews and NE 62nd (Cypress Creek) and travel down Andrews to Fort Lauderdale quite often.

.
Wilton Manors isn't that expensive. Certainly not Victoria Park pricey.

Lake Ridge and Poinsettia Heights are also overflow of WM.
