Pompano Beach High School is a magnet school where all the students have to test to be able to get in. It was rated as one of the top schools in FL. I believe Deerfield Beach High School also has the IB program there. If you have a motivated child and they're in AP classes or higher, they'll be fine anywhere. My little sister went to a really badly integrated school and she was just fine. She got into a great college with full scholarship and finished. It's all about the parenting sometimes.

I think that which IB you can go to (assuming you get in) depends on where in the county you live.

Pompano Beach High School

A fellow alum who has his kids there thinks it's as good as most of the private schools. He said it is very hard to get into. Not sure how that works with public schools. Guess you can pass the test, but get on a waiting list?

I spoke to him a while ago when considering a return to SFL, thinking I could move into the neighborhood of the school to get my kids in, but he said no.

Unlike other parts of the country where each small town has its own school system, wherever you live in Broward county, it is governed by one school board. This means boundaries can be changed and school funding can be allocated as the board sees fit. A different set of rules for school governing down here.

I had my child in Nova University school but I would have switched her to St. Thomas Aquinas for high school (fewer social issues)

What issues do you speak of?
