Sup y'all! I got my job in Miami and I'm moving to Miramar. I have a lease ready to roll at Windsor Communities.

What do you all think? Any recommendations as far as what to do? Activities? Programs? Etc.?

Hit me with some good news!

I take it from your screen name that you're going to be working at the Dade County State Attorney's Office? I worked there for 11 years Congrats on the job! The commute to SAO from there is about 45 minutes - I used to leave from Pines Blvd & 75. I recommend taking 75 South to the Gratigny East and riding NW 27 Ave south avoiding both 826, 836 and 95.

Windsor is right off Dykes. It's all rental for the most part. Its so-so....too many thug teenagers in that area of Silver shores/Nautica/Windsor/Villagio. There is Miramar Regional Park to the west off you..access straight off Miramar Parkway. It has a nice aquatic center. There is also the new Miramar Cultural arts center off Red Road which is pretty much a theater and they occasioanally have some very good performances and plays. In July there will be a nice Symphony performing and the tickets are cheap.

As far as other fun things to do in Miramar..there really aren't. You will have to drive somewhere else. The only real bar scene in west Miramar for now is occasionally at Benihanas off Dykes Road next to the home depot....happy hour is pretty good there depending on what night you go. Overpriced Bruschetta in the publix shopping center off Monarch Lakes Blvd has closed it's doors and Cancun Grill (yes..same one as the Miami Lakes location) is taking over. Expect a lively and festive scene there when it opens.

Anything else...let me know.

Wow, thanks for all the information guys! Fauve, I appreciate the driving route! I'm sure I will be using it. And heydade, thanks for the tip about happy hour in Benihanas! Sounds like a fun time.

My fiance and I would love to "meet people" - I hear it's a hard thing to do in Miami, for whatever reason, but we'll try our best! Do any of you participate in adult co-ed soccer / softball / kickball leagues? They can be a blast and I found they're a great way to make friends.

You might want to check out www.meetup.com as a way to meet people. That's how I found a local playgroup for my children. They have tons of groups and I'm sure you can find a sports related one.
