Tampa is about 10 degrees colder in winter.

Well, the dew point can be lower and it can feel cooler, sometimes.

Often, coming from Tennessee, it feels like a wall of water hits us just south of Tampa. If my glasses are going to fog up getting out of the car it is going to happens somewhere south of Tampa. Just sayin.'

On the other hand...it is 75 degrees in Cape Coral, right now and 67 degrees in Tampa. That is mostly due to the fact that The South is being hit with another brutally cold winter. But that is going to be more noticeable in Tampa.

If you hate humidity and don't mind it a bit cooler, stay in Tampa or north of there.

There are a lot of other considerations, too. "Nicer" is a relative and subjective term. It depends on your definition and what you are looking for.

Please be sure to check out the forum FAQ and Fun Things to do.

If you are sure that you are a West Florida person, you still have hundreds if not thousands of neighbourhood situations to consider.

- Marco Island all way up to Tarpon Springs and beyond
- Beach vs inland
- gated, HOA, Deed restricted, period of construction, evacuation zone, bundled golf course, existing vs "being constructed",

Key factors are if you are moving permanently, family in need of schooling and will be working, snowbird or second homer.

Personally, if I was younger and working, I would stay up in the Tampa/Orlando belt unless there was a specific job being offered.

Although generalizations are dangerous, I think you get better value for money further south (away from the jobs) and it is meaningfully warmer in the key Dec-Feb season when you want to be down there as a snowbird or second homer.

For this group, watch your house orientation to the sun, which makes all the difference when it is 68F...a deck in the sun at this temp is very different than a deck in the shade. This and last season have been colder than norms.

One rule of thumb would be to start your search with Marco Island and then start working your way North until you see something you can afford. For us that sweet spot turned out to be Daniels corridor near the SWF airport (not on flightpath).

I have a friend who went to Tampa for many years off and on and has family there. She planned on moving there permanently someday until now. She says it is getting too busy now. She is considering SW Florida or Arkansas at this time.

Younger folks tend to like Tampa more. Lots more to do for them and more jobs. We had a lady on here from Tampa for the longest time. She moved to Fort Myers and got stuck. She desperately wanted to move back to Tampa. It was heartbreaking. I don't know what she ever did.
