DANGEROUS THINGS TO DO IN SWF

Feeding alligators. | As a very rough rule of thumb, driving around Fort Myers north of College Parkway without knowing what you are doing, especially after dark (McGregor is the exception and a good way to get downtown after dark.) | Driving around anywhere after dark unless you are familiar with the area and know where you are going. | If someone grabs your purse outside a liquor store, fighting with the robber. | Impolite behavior on the roadways...many are carrying (weapons) and some are not law abiding. | Walking side streets alone when in River District at night | Not being polite and docile with police. | Renting a car without liability coverage from home (smarter) or rental car company (not so smart). | Wading or swimming in lakes and rivers. | Walking off paths in brush or wild terrain. | Swimming inland if caught in an undertow (swim parallel to beach, then in). | Not doing the stingray shuffle in Gulf Water when the tide is low and water is warm. | Falling between your boat and dock barnacles. | Not hydrating. | Not using sunscreen. | Using a roaming non-US-based cellphone $$$ | Not locking down your AC unit in remote locations. | Moving to Florida without a job lined up. | Buying a house based on a two week tour (see section on moving down). | Being rude to server staff. | Wearing socks with shorts. | Saying "that's not how we do it up north".

Thank you so much for the listing. We are coming down to our winter home next week and bringing some friends with us. We were trying to compile a list of some fun things to do during our visit and this is perfect.

Default Everglades Day Safari

I'd like to do a photography oriented nature tour of the Everglades. The "Everglades Day Safari" listed looks promising. Is this a good time of the year to go?

If you do this, you may want to check out Clyde Butcher's gallery: Black and White Photography - Clyde Butcher

We found it on the way through the Everglades and spent hours inside!

you may wish to consider and ask if you are getting into actual wetland (have not done this tour) - I did Babcock tour last month and it was very dry (summers wetter) - though I saw a group of boar which made the outing worthwhile.

dawn and dusk is supposed to be best for seeing feeding birds.

6 miles slough Wednesday morning tour is free ($1 parking), and there is also the Ding Darling drive around park which is great. Corkscrew is a bit more of a commitment walking wise.

Just my opinion, but I wonder if it would be better to close these stickys to comments and the dialog can continue on other threads; otherwise the original post may start to become overlooked and we are back to square one.

Yes, totally agree. If one has their City Data setup to sort by new messages first, the actual sticky content gets pushed to the bottom. Can the new posts be deleted, too?

that makes sense. Ideally people would only post comments related to the stickies, but less work to close it up and have people create a new thread if they wish to comment on the sticky. Deleting the postings would clean it up nicely as well. Lets see what Frank says.
