Those of you who are not evacuating, I send my good wishes and prayers. I hope and pray the worst of this storm does not hit the area. Let's keep this thread going with updates on what's going on in and around Ft. Myers.

Hi, I am in Cape Coral. The homes , many of them have their storm shutters up and waiting to see what will transpire. We heard a few days ago it would hit Miami but they ignored the European model that is quite accurate. That model was farther over to the sw side. Now all that spaghetti paths are lining up with the European model and it does not look too good for the Cape or Ft Myers.

The local weather man said Cape Coral will have 79 mph sustained winds at its peak and could get gusts of 90 to 120 mph .

I just hope there is minimal damage ,but something tells me it is going to be very bad. Keep praying. We need many prayers now.

Thank you.

I'm staying put in N Ft Myers.

I'm in a steel and concrete building, on relatively high ground (zone "C") have genset, so should be able to keep refrigeration and A/C blowing for a few days anyway.

Comcast/Xfinity installed one of their free wifi gizmos on a power pole down the street, and it seems to work. So should be able to post here if it gets real rough. (as long as that pole doesn't blow down, I guess).

I am not down there, and didn't have a chance to get down to secure my condo, but I do plan on getting down there as soon as humanly possible. I just hope that Ft. Myers/Cape Coral are still there. Condos can be re built, yes, I know that. I just don't want to have to see the long process of rebuilding an entire community. I dread the suffering of those who lose everything and most importantly, i don't want to see loss of life.

unfortunately I couldn't get my hurricane shutters on. I put the bolts to secure them "somewhere" that probably made sense at the time. couldn't find them when needed and everywhere was sold out , good thing I have hurricane and flood insurance.

Not to stress you out, but is your coverage valid if you don’t put up the shutters?

As of 5:00 it looks as if Ft. Myers may get a direct hit with the eye.

What will the storm surge be like in Fort Myers? My sister lives there (she's evacuated) and I'm a bit worried about her house. She lives pretty close to the river.

If the center goes to the west and north and winds are 140mph it could be as high as 24 ft depending on where you are...

It depends where in Ft Myers. On WINK weather, they show most areas expect about 3-6 feet. Some only 1 foot. Areas along San Carlos Bay could get to 9+.
