I want to move from Ohio to Cape coral.. (Jacksonville: foreclose, for rent)

Im a 24 year old student that will soon be able to work on the police force or somewhere in the criminal justice field. I will probably be moving down with 1 or 2 roomates. IS there lots of jobs or are they hard to come by? we plan on renting a house which we would like to split the rent somewhere around 400 to 500 a piece including utilities. Please any information about jobs or housing would be great thank you.

The economy in Cape Coral(Lee County) is the worst in the state of Florida right now. Record numbers of forecloses and 7.5% unemployment rate. Tax base of cities and county is eroding rapidly. Businesses folding, population in flight. I would strongly suggest that you have employment SECURED before arrival. Local Police and fire are likely on verge of laying off. Sherriff's office probably best place to try.
There is a glut of vacant houses for rent/sale here. The figures you stated are adequate for a nice home to rent.

In this Florida economy if you want to have a chance at finding a job, stick with the major cities of Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, or Miami/Ft.Lauderdale areas.

you have to realize, we were in the top 5 most built areas for the last 5+ years, naturally any slow down with dramatically effect us and it has. things look worse than they really are. the sheriffs are always hiring and you can get unlimited overtime, so you can make a lot of money if you work a lot. the prison system is always looking for guards too, that pays decent as well.

as far as your friends go, they need to find solid jobs, any subcontracting jobs on monster and career builder are jokes. its people with 1 work order per month but will promise 20 a month when they are slow. enterprise is always hiring tho 10.50 an hour. gets your feet in the door so you can live down here.

I just moved down from Ohio not too long ago. Florida is a nice place to live, but just do your research on where you may end up. Things are not always what they seem. It is good that you would be bringing friends down, because being alone is the hardest part about moving someplace new. One thing that they do not give you in a brochure, the bugs are nothing like in Ohio. Jobs can be hard to find down here if you do not come with one secured. And just remember, this is a good vacation spot, but if you are living your everday life, it is not always a party.

As a lifelong resident of Ohio who's also planning to move to Florida, I can definitely understand your desire to move to the Sunshine State. I'd also recommend that all of you secure jobs before you move to Florida. As the others have said, the economy is pretty tight right now. Best wishes.
