Default Considering move to Cape Coral/S Ft Myers

My husband and I are considering moving from Texas to Cape Coral/S Ft Myers area to be closer to family. He is concerned about flood insurance and the ability or inability to get it and the expense of it. Is this a problem there? Is it very costly? Also, with all of the foreclosures and short sales, can we expect the property taxes etc to rise significantly to make up for all of them? We are retired and living on a fixed income so it is important for us to factor all of these things in to our decision. We are also considering North and South Carolina to at least get us back to the east coast (although we do love it here in Texas).

Thanks for all your help.

Flood insurance isn't hard to get. It would cost me about $300 a year. I just checked last month. Homeowners has come down to be a little higher pre Hurricane Charlie.
