Also, don't be fooled by real estate agents. Lack of ethical behavior is alive and well here. Don't be fooled by the accent! Texas is not what it's cracked up to be to the rest of the country! More jobs, yes, but they are really picky about who they hire and we are both experienced, just older!

We paid $2250 a year on a more expensive house in Chico. The soil here is the pits. You have to amend it greatly. Azle is having earthquakes due to fracking. There is polluted air, water, high taxes here. You need to think long and hard before moving here. I am very disappointed. We are selling our house asap and if we stay here, we will have to downgrade to just above ghetto to afford property taxes! Good luck!

KathieT feel free to move back to California! Good luck with the higher cost of living, and I hope you enjoy the government helping you out with every little thing because you are dependent on them , oh and also enjoy the higher taxes in Cali! Hope you like it there (^_^)

And good luck, you'll need it

I agree with Texas1010, feel FREE to move back to liberal-California KathieT. Some people just can't live on their own without the government holding their hand.

Really? You're complaining about smog in North Fort Worth when California is home to the Smoggiest cities in the US??

California has much higher sales tax rates AND an income tax AND COL.

Also, notice her children moved here to get JOBS here in Texas. I wonder if that's because they couldn't find anything back in the Cali.

Default Northern Cali

Northern California, north of Sacramento, does not have the smog problem that southern Cali has. I grew up in So Cal and remember the stinging sulfur smog of the 70's. Here, when you fly into Love Field, you can see the huge brown layer over the metroplex. That is also where the jobs happen to be. My kids could have had jobs in Cali. One already did, just didn't want to drive all over the bay area. The other had prospects, but wanted to leave Chico for "the wide world." The metroplex and Tarrant county is NOT good for retirees. If we stay here, we will have to work longer years just to pay property taxes. That is a tax that you don't have control over. Sales taxes are the same here. Auto and homeowner's insurance is much higher and it's due to higher weather-related claims. There is no public transit in most of Tarrant county. It costs more to live here for people on fixed incomes. That is a fact. Property taxes can make people lose their homes and all the equity. That is also a fact.

Well, you do know you moved to the fourth largest metropolitan area in the Nation, right? Did you just think Texas is somehow immune to the side effects of large populations..i.e Smog? And of course "Northern California North of Sacramento" is going to have better air quality - because there's NO MAJOR CITIES North of Sacramento in CA.

And if you're going to complain about the property taxes, you should have done better research. It sounds like you have done some poor financial planning in regards to saving, moving, and buying and you're simply blamming it on a high property tax/ the State of Texas. No one made you move here. No one made you buy that particular house in whatever location.

You point out areas where things are more expensive here, but in the end, the COL is higher in California. Plain and simple.

And in regards to no Public transit...you're right on that one! Most people here complain about it. It's a fairly easy topic to come across and if it's a deal breaker..once again. You should have done you're research.

Here's the deal. You moved from a realatively small city to a very large Metropolitan area...in a completely different State. It's going to be different. Bashing this community and this State simply because you failed to properly plan is uncalled for.

Agreed!

This may be my personal opinion, but it seems like most people in Fort Worth prefer to ride their own vehicles no matter if there is any type of public transportation lol
