Arlington Apt. lease our apt after us giving notice to extend (month-to-month, living)

Hi,
We are currently living month-to-month and at the beginning of the month we sent and email to the manager saying we would like to extend our stay and sign lease. But that manager had left and the email went unnoticed and we were never notified that there was a new manager. We assumed it was seen and were waiting to sign a lease. But it was later towards the end of the month we realized that they had leased out our apt. without letting us know. Is there a way to keep our current apt and not have to move out?
