So my daughter is now going to school in Ft Worth and I am on a plane from Ft Lauderdale to Love Field DALLAS once a month to see her and I am basically in love with Texas and especially Ft Worth/Keller north. Texas is for sure blessed by God with wide open affordable land and the people are just amazing...Now is there a specific way to become a born again Texan, I am ready to convert!

First move here and don't tell anyone you are from somewhere else.
I grew up in FTW and they have they own way of talking - very West Texan = learn that dialect.

Never make fun of FtW but it's OK to joke about Dallas people (required).
Just be friendly and tell everyone how great Ft Worth is.

You might eventually buy a pair of boots even if they just sit in your closet.

It's OK to trash talk politicians just be careful you do the Liberals more often.
Learn who the good politicians are (Greg Abbott), the bad ones (Wendy Davis) and the ones who out stayed their welcome (Rick Perry)

Never say anything bad about anyone, they may be related or went to high school together.

Don't say "Howdy"

Only say "Y'all" when it absolutley fits

Never say "Youse Guys"

Never say THE (fill in the blank)......... Highway number. (Example don't say THE I-20). We don't ever use THE

********* Also:

Own a pickup truck

Eat Mexican food at non-chain restaurants

Favor BBQ beef over pork

Stop using your car left or right signal indicators when you pass vehicles on the freeways

Become a Cowboys fan

Lastly.....Don't reside in most of Collin County if you want to be a Real Texan.

I guess it depends what part of town you're in, but I wouldn't recommend dissing FW's very own Wendy Davis. She is pretty well liked in the neighborhoods I frequent and for good reason, IMO.

From my experience, being "born again" was one of the biggest requirements to being a real Texan.

That definitely depends on your neighborhood. In our neighborhood, you can make fun of her and get lots of agreement!

Do you live in Fort Worth now?

I thought you lived out in the burbs, Grapevine was it? No big surprise, given the culture out there.
