Does Tarrant Co. require an emissions test? Or the state of Texas for that matter?

Not every county requires it. Go to texas.gov to find out more and everything you will need to know and do when moving to the state.

Yes they do. My Mom when transferring her plates had to go to the local oil/lube shop down the street from her house and they were certified to do the emissions test. I want to say it was something like 50.00 or so and they gave her the paperwork. We went right from there to the local vehicle registration place and got her plates right then.

She also went to get her Texas drivers license then too. She was so excited that she didn't have to take the test

Without doing the research myself, I believe emissions tests are required if you live in Tarrant County, Dallas County, or any of the counties that border either of those.

Emissions tests are required in 'nonattainment' or 'near nonattainment' areas, for the most part. Houston/Galveston Area, Beaumont Area, DFW Area, Travis county (Austin), and I am sure there are a few others (should be required in El Paso, but not sure).

Btw, the testing is based on the county you live in. If you live in a more rural county and commute in, you may not need the inspection.

Sorry I wasn't specific enough. My mom just had to have this done in Tarrant County.
