Let me start my thanking users for input; I previously inquired about cities for our upcoming move and you all gave me awesome feedback. We were in the area last week and found a house in Bedford, near the boy's ranch park.

I currently work for the VA in Kansas and would love to remain with them but after attempting the drive from Bedford to the VA (4500 S Lancaster Rd, Dallas) last week I thought there's no way I'd want to do that drive to work.

I heard about the public transit (TRE and DART?) and was told it would be a great option and many use it.

Does anyone on here know if it's safe, reliable, and if it would get me to work in a timely manner? I don't mind public transport, I grew up in busses and metros in Montreal. I just wonder how long the trip would be and if it's a safe option.

Ideas? Opinions? Info?

Thank you

I live in Euless about 5-10 minutes away from Boy's Ranch. You'd have to drive to the train station. There's no public transit to get you from Bedford to the station. I'd recommend Centreport station or closer to Dallas so you don't have to pay both TRE and DART fares. IIRC, the VA has a train stop. It would be faster to drive but if you'd rather spend more time on the commute but not have to be driving the bulk of it, it's a viable option. I'd personally either look for a job closer to Bedford or a place to live closer to the VA.

EDIT: Oh, and you need to make sure you would be commuting during DART hours and the train schedules lines up with your needs. It's not a 24/7 service and during non-peak hours it only runs every 20-30 minutes.

Combining the TRE and DART is doable and reliable, but you're looking at an hour to an hour and a half of travel time. You might get a wide variety of answers on safety. I've never felt unsafe on the TRE, but there's almost always security or an off-duty police officer walking the trains and fare enforcement is a little more consistent. I've never ventured farther north than City Place or farther south than Fair Park on DART and I've found it to be safe. They've had their share of incidents over the years and fare enforcement is less consistent.

Thanks for the input. So if I understand, driving from Bedford Boy's ranch to the Bell station, then taking TRE and switch to DART at Union to get off at the VA and walk in the building should take about 1 to 1 1/2 hour? Is that a good assumption? Food for thought.

Also, I looked at the schedule and don't see anything for Sunday. Do they not run on Sundays?

As much as I would love to stay with the VA this is becoming quite a challenge

Default what about driving?

If I were to drive...

When I tried the drive last week I did 183-360-20-Lancaster, then up Lancaster. It took 50 minutes.

If I took 183-35E-Ann Arbor exit... would that be a better option?

The TRE does not run at all on Sundays.
