I Google mapped it and looked at some zoomed in pictures...it looks pretty bland (N35W to TX-285...)

I'll be making that drive come this Thursday afternoon; does any one have any advice (tips or tricks) on how would be the best way to tackle this drive. Possibly another more expedited way of getting to my destination??

Well, we used to go 287 all the way. (I guess you meant 287, rather than 285?).

It is a pretty long drive. Around 7 to 8 hours, if I recall. I simply don't think there is a quicker route than 287.

NOTE: I have not made the drive in well over a decade. I can't give any tips about where to eat, etc.

Any update on travel between Ft Worth and Amarillo on 287? Do the local police still target speeding infractions? What is the road surface like? ie; bumpy; recently repaved; 2 or 4 lane and time of travel.
Thanks for any help, I'll be thru there the first of November and just doing some pre travel scouting.

Road is pretty nice...maybe amazingly nice...
Not much to see or do between here and there.
If you are desperate to stop...outside of Jacksboro which is very early on in the trip is Fort Richardson which is one of the old western forts when cowboys were fighting Indians. That could also be a day trip.
You could also stop in Quanah at the Hardeman County Historical Museum.
Somewhere you could probably stop and see a marker or read a historical sign for the Western Trail, but not sure where...maybe close to Vernon. I'm not good with history, but I believe this is to mark some of the cattle drive from South Texas to Kansas City.

Take some spray paint and leave your tag at the Cadillac Ranch near Amarillo.

I drove that route about 9 months ago, and started from Houston. I arrived in Ft Worth pretty fast and my initial impression was like 'I'm going to be there soon', but that took longer than I expected. I stopped little bit before Amarillo that evening because I went to some other place first. However even from Houston it's doable. From Ft Worth it's much easier for sure. Palo Duro Canyon is really awesome and definitely worth the drive! Even though it is officially a state park, it is more on a national park level I would say.

Long, boring, with lots of speed traps. I lived in Amarillo for a year. It's 5 hours with minimal stops.

Don't do the drive after dark if you can help it. Some stretches have little street lighting. I also remember a lot of big, fast trucks on these two lane roads so definitely don't drive drowsy.
