I've only been in the area for little over a year but a DREAD every time I have to get on 820 anywhere from the north west to the north east corners. Traffic even makes 35W (north of 820) back up like crazy. With the growth the area (including Keller and Haslet) is seeing, shouldn't the city be looking at adding a couple extra lanes to 820??

or when exactly is it time to do it? when you spend an hour sitting in traffic?? come on!

this is one of those damned if you do and damned if you don't scenarios--
remember
these are the same people who brought you the interchange around NE Mall, the 121/114 split right after the Central Dr exit/up-ramp, the 114/121 intersection in Grapevine...

Last I heard they are looking at adding toll lanes to 820 (current lanes would remain free). Be careful what you ask for.... adding lanes to that road would take YEARS to complete and will be a mess with construction while they're adding lanes.

But I disagree that the problem area is from NE corner of 820 to NW corner of 820... I only notice problems on the east side on N loop 820.... that is from N IH35 to the 183/121 interchange. NW area (Azle, Lake Worth, Marine Creek) seems to always runs smoothly.

from the NRHills/Hwy 26 section all the way past TCC nw campus can be iffy on any given day--once you are past the Jacksboro Hwy exit things seem to get better but that is because there is just not that much traffic comparitively...weekends are just as bad as morning/evening commutes and race weekends are like the 8th circle in Dante's Inferno--we NEVER use 820 north loop if there is any alternative--even to taking a longer timed route on surface streets...

going N/S on 820 from NE Mall past John T White/I-30 can be nuts as well certain times of the day
the full south section again is more streamlined except for backups I have seen around the Hulen exit from time to time

I bet you this highway didn't look much different in 1972. If they had started the expansion as the city grew, we wouldn't be where we are now. It's just bad city planning.

I NEVER travel that route unless there is no other choice. I believe that I read somewhere it is THE WORST traffic logjam in the state of Texas (no kidding).

We have serious problems with Loop 820. The interchange from 287 on to 820 to 20 at certain times is down right dangerous. As a long time Fort Worth native when you start seeing traffic jams on 287 things are getting pretty bad.

I've only been through there a few times and traffic was so ridiculous it easily bested North Central Expressway, which I used to think was bad. I don't see how people commute from HEB to Ft Worth.
