I shopped at a Winco Foods for the first time last week. I was shocked as how much I saved as compared to and Alberstons or a Safeway or any other unionized grocery store. I can't believe that unions cost us, the consumer, so much. Am I wrong?
Has anyone else sought out non-union grocery stores to save a few bucks? Are all non-union grocery stores as cheap as Winco?
Down here, the most expensive grocery stores around for my typical cart of goods are staunchly non-union. I actually come away spending far less at Publix, which is not union, but is a good percentage employee-owned and also provides a far better total compensation package than anyone else in their category.
I doubt if comparative grocery pricing has anything to do with the collective bargaining status of the employees. Nor if grocery prices can be predicted in whether the store is in a right-to-work state or not. Kansas is a right-to-work state, and Missouri is not, but there is no difference in grocery prices at the state line.

And actually, prices can be a little lower on the Missouri side of the state line. I know the sales tax rate is lower in Missouri.
The Albertson's store in my neighborhood is union. I have a friend that works there. The other gorcery stores in the area are Safeway and City Market (Kroger). I scan the sale flyers every week and Albertson's usually has the best loss leader sales prices around here.
I shop local Mom & Pop grocery here only. Had a job in the next town over and stopped at Albertsons to pick up a can of V8 they wanted 4.49 Ha I pay 2.27 in my weeney town. walked out
The prices for the union vs. non union stores are pretty comparable. I have noticed that the non-union stores though, have more workers on the floor and at the registers. The union chains are hopping on the self-serve checkout bandwagon a lot more now. And I despise self-checkouts. Just my observations... I shop at the local privately owned chain.
Where I live the Safeway (unionized) gives some of the best deals compared to Walmart, Dollar, and smaller stores. Drugstores CVS and Walgreens are worse unless its on sale, though the checkout is quicker. Unless you are virulently anti union for political reasons, there is no reason to avoid union stores. I don't like the self checkout, it always gets screwed up.
