That's why it's best to check your quote with a dozen different insurers first and find the lowest rate..

Insurance companies generally have two different rate schedules, one based on driving record and one based on credit rating and things like that. Usually when you go for a quote they'll reel you in with the lower rate, then switch you to the higher rate once you've proven yourself to be a loyal customer. Some will switch you back if you ask them to, but if they won't you should be able to save some money by switching to another company who offers the lower introductory rate.

My insurance company bases their rates on the number of years one has been driving. It gets lower the longer you have been licensed.
I have 2 vehicles insured for just liability. I have three drivers on the policy. I could add another driver and as long as they have been licensed for over 10 years (I think that's the mark) it would not increase my rates.

I still remember that yrs. ago a major ins. co. raised rates on my father because he'd never had an accident and they figured he was due!!

^^^ I know how you feel. I am insured for the last 20 years with the same car insurance company and their rates go up every 6 months. I never had an accident, ticket or a claim. It sucks.

Easy solution: Go car-free and go by bike.

Yeah, turns out my big car cost, now that I am car-lite (meaning I drive very little), is the insurance.

Now they are offering to do some sort of billing or rate based on driving habits. Thing in the mail says if I participate it might lower my rate. I dont trust that...it could raise my rate since the about the only driving I do is high-speed interstate driving to and from Kentucky...a lot of miles in a short time, covered fast. Oops.

I don't enjoy riding a bike in the snow.
