This may sound dumb but can you use an Illinois EBT card at Subway, McDonalds, Taco Bell, etc. Or only at food stores? Thanks.....

In California, land of the entitlement, just about every convenient store, Pizza Hut, Subway, papa muprhy's, KFC, Jack in the box, and many others accept EBT. I see more and more we accept EBT outside local food business these days.

You have to check the rules in your state. I believe, in my state, that you can only use it on food that you need to prepare, such as dry food, canned food, fruit & vegetables, meat etc. at grocery stores. But, you can not buy prepared food such as in the deli department in grocery store.

The most cost effective place to use EBT funds is the grocery store.

Not even close to about every one. Only in certain counties, and only to recipients approved for California Restaurant Meals Program. Which is primarily homeless people and others who can’t prepare their own meals.

Just because a business puts up a big "EBT Accepted Here” sign, doesn’t prove that people are actually using their EBT cards there. For one thing, the average fast food meal in California is over $5. Average monthly food stamp benefits per person is a $141 a month. What a great entitlement for the unlucky few who have to get their food that way. They get to eat one crappy fast food meal a day for half the month, then they get to starve for the other half a month. The real entitlement is the businesses that make the money off the program.

In Texas you can only buy groceries. No fast food or restaurants. No food from the deli in the grocery store. Only food items, no vitamins etc Your state should have it on the internet what you can buy.

Most places you cannot buy "Hot" from the deli, but you CAN buy "Cold" stuff. Chicken, sandwiches and such.

I may be wrong but I think some people who do not have access to a stove or are so disabled they cannot cook easily are able to participate in a "Restaurant Program"
