I am planning a newbie moonlight garden. I'd like to grow the plants from seed. I also would prefer native plants to the northeast, but I'm okay with non-invasive non-native plants.

Any suggestions?
My requirements are:
perennial
white (yep racism LOL)
Easy to raise from seed
Zone 7
Full sun and acidic soil
Somewhat moister soil...drains okay, but rich and a teensy bit clayey.

So far, I picked a white eupatorium for the center of the island, so maybe some plants shorter than 15 or 16 inches would be great.

I just saw something neat on creating a moonlight garden a month or two ago and can't remember where now. I hate when that happens!

Off the top of my head some white flowering perennials/ perennials with a white version: Shasta Daisies, White Phlox (tall, dwarf and creepingl), feverfew, and white clematis (several different ones), white physostegia (obedient plant), oxe eye daisies. For annuals alyssum, white flowering begonias, white petunias, white vinca (Madagascar periwinkle to some), candytuft (iberis)....

Most of these can be seeded but not always easily. I'd go with getting plants already growing but small; still cheap but more likely to look good sooner and not a whole lot more expensive. Bluestone Perennials caries a lot of fairly small sized plants at 3 for prices and has a good reputation:Bluestone Perennials, Inc -- Home

Early arrivals are snowdrops: snowdrops plant - Google Search and May arrivals are lilies of the valley: lilies of the valley pictures - Google Search
Both will naturalize and give you pleasure for years to come!

and of course, dont forget moon flower!

there are also a number of night blossoming jasmines that are beautiful.

in terms of smaller plants, carpet phlox is beautiful...
also dont forget foliage, look for plants with silver leaves, they "GLOW" in moonlight with a bit of a sparkle too.

Thanks FoxyWench! I like the carpet phlox idea! I will definitely find a place for it. Do you have any suggestions for silvery leaved plants that might be a good fit?
