Birds eating my garden (lawn, snakes, leaves, pump)

Hi, can someone suggest what I might do to keep those nasty black type birds out of my garden? They are pigs. They eat up all of the bird food, now they are eating up my garden. Idon't have any spinach left.

If you are in a rural setting and you are talking about starlings, best to get your shotgun and kill as many as you can (as the law allows of course). Starlings are a scourge to native birds and nasty pests. If you are not in a rural area there isn't much you can to except use the netting.
Be certain it is starlings that are your problem if you plan to kill them. You cannot kill other blackbirds legally.
hang those cheap flashy pie pans, like those from TV Dinners from string attached to a pole, or several poles, or from a limb from a nearby tree, birds tend to distrust moving objects.
Fake snakes should work well. You need to move them every other day, and don't forget they're there. I've pushed back pumpkin leaves a few times and screamed.
LOL That description had me nearly spout coffee all over my screen! I've seen some gardens with that and old CD's on strings and they seem to have less problems but I haven't had the pleasure of needing it so far. Maybe I need to knock wood... My favorite has been a family plot down the road with a scarecrow that has several CD's dangling from its arms on strings. I think the tape would move in even slight breezes where the CDs are a bit heavier but they both seem to be based on the same principle... things moving in random ways.
