Looking for a row of trees to plant on both sides of the 100 ft driveway... Wife says she wants trees that cover the whole 2 lane driveway cause it seems romantic to her to drive underneatf the trees.. I prefer trees that won't uproot the driveway... Thanks..
I've seen a driveway lined with dogwoods and red bud trees. They don't grow real tall. Power companies give them away once a year because they don't grow tall enough to interfere with power lines. Wonderful colors all along the drive when these trees are in bloom.

I will ask a friend who lives in northern VA and has a big property, long driveway and horses. She is also a gardener. She'll know.
My only caution is to plant each one exactly right and care for them all really well. Lose one, and it looks like a gap-toothed smile. That's always the risk.
Your wife is right. Driving in under a canopy of trees is wonderful. Except in an ice storm. Then it's an obstacle course
I have your answer! From TWO friends and gardeners in the DC/N. VA area. They both suggest Littleleaf Linden, and I concur! Love this tree! Few pests and diseases, lovely spring fragrance, beautiful shape that makes a nice canopy, and no litter problems. My friends say this is a beloved street tree because leaves basically dry up and decompose without raking.
Whatever you decide, check out its disease problems and litter mess. Lindens are geeat for this. Someone suggested Hawthorns. They can be high maintenance because of pest problems.
Another wonderful tree, which my friend says creates themost beautiful driveway she has ever seen, is London Planetree. I wouldn't have thought of that one, but yes, it's gorgeous. The bark is amazing. It is a type of Sycamore.
Whatever you plant line your drive way with root barriers.
If you want immediate gratification(3-5yrs) and have the money I suggest planting 24in boxed trees or larger. Large balled and burlaped is another option. Just a suggestion incase money is no barrier.
