With the stray cat population the way it is in many areas of the US I don't believe there is any effective way to keep cats out of your yard. Unless you want mouth balls all over your yard. If you have young children that probably would not be the smartest thing to do. But any way, TNR is a program that fixes all stray cats at a very low rate. That will take care of any smell and it normally makes a cat calmer then it was. I hope you find a solution but please do not try this persons solution.
