I got my first batch of mailorder plants a little early. They arrived when it got up to 60 degrees. I left them out on the porch, but it seems it got below freezing and they froze solid in the pots! I have never had this happen before and I'm not sure what to do.

The plants had already leafed out and seem to have been grown in a greenhouse . Otherwise, I guess they'd still be dormant. They are smooth hydrangea and a clematis.

Should I get replacements now I put them in a partially heated room in the basement and I guess I won't be able to plant them outside for a couple of weeks. Will they live?

Hard to say for sure, and it's certainly worth a try to try and salvage them but --

"The plants had already leafed out....froze solid in the pots!" doesn't leave much hope.

Get some new ones.

Plants can surprise you, but I think the odds are against. Sorry for your probable loss!

Thanks for the advice. I did get replacements. I really wanted these plants, so I am not taking any chances. I'll see if the frozen ones pull through as well.
