How can I kill weeds that are growing in the middle of my peony (lawn, grass)

By right in the middle, do you mean in the middle of the plant or middle of the gardening bed? I don't use herbicide inside of my gardening beds. I pull everything or sometimes, depending on the spot, I'll run water and vinegar through my coffee maker and pour the hot water on whatever I am trying to kill.
I wonder if you all know what peonies look like when they first send up shoots?
Either soak the ground or wait until after a good rain and weed them by hand. If the weeds/grass won't come up easily, cut them off just below ground level with an old pair of scissors, being careful not to injure the eyes of your peony. They may be near the surface, depending on where you live.
Its a good time to install cages if you use them.
Telling us where you live would help with a plan for next year. Ours aren't up yet. I look every day. Once they get started they shoot up quickly!
I had this dilemma among a few of my daylilies. I am a puller, Preen user, or weed killer-er, depending upon the circumstances. The weeds among the daylilies were not pull able, so while the daylily was dormant I sprayed with weed killer. As you know, it will only hurt the good plant if it touches the leaves.
If you had the opportunity to spray the weed before your peony emerged, you could have, but now your only option is to pull. Perhaps you could go at the weed with a paintbrush and carefully hit the leaves that way.
