Was just going through some pics on my phone and one picture I had was of my Rose of Sharon that's a few years old. It's white with a red eye. This year I noticed something odd, I had a pink flower on the same branch show up with the white flower.
I looked up this oddity, and it's called a Sport in the botany world.
Has anyone had this happen to any of their plants?
If you can root the portion of the branch that has the pink flower, you might be able to produce a completely pink plant. However, if the change was not due to a permanent modification of all the cells at that site, it will not show up again. That would happen if the pink color only arose due to reaction against an insect, a virus, or another infection. On the other hand, if the plant that your plant was derived from was pink to start out and your white with red eye was a sport of the pink one, then your pink flower is a 'revertant' and you do not want to keep that twig or branch since it is losing whatever made it unique in the first place.

Will have to try next year, if it happens again. Could be interesting. Thanks for the info.
Ellwood, do you have a picture of it. Sounds beautiful!
