Just did my 4th lawn cutting for the year, went with 3 1/2 inches for now.

Curious what others are cutting at for this time of the year.

Planning to keep it at 3 1/2 inches until about late May then raise it to 4 inches for the summer....also helps promote deeper root growth.

We avoid cutting during the cool season. The mower gets stuck in the snow.

That's great, but the question was regarding cool season grasses or sounds like it doesn't apply if your not familiar with.

I always cut mine on the long side, don't go short until last cut of the season. My lawn mower has 5 settings and I leave it in the middle. I see some folks around here cut their lawn real short at the beginning of the season but I'm not sure what the rational is there.

Keep the grass high, if you have bluegrass-fescue-perennial rye mix especially. You'll shade out most weeds, and stay greener longer when it gets dry since the soil is shaded better. Also don't bag, mulch. Cuts down on waste and fertilizes your lawn to boot.

Really depends on the price range of the mower.

Some of your better mowers offer better cutting heights.
