How do I get cucumber seeds to germinate quickly?? I've grown them every year for four years and I've never had these problems. I've tried soaking them overnight, planting them in peat pods, direct sowing into pots w/potting soil. I've planted 15 seeds and have exactly two seedlings. Help?

If the temp is too chilly they won't happen. I don't know where you are, but they aren't even selling cuke plants here on Long Island yet. Night temps are way too cool.

Probably a dumb question, but are all your attempts from the same bag of seeds? It's possible that there's something wrong with the seeds themselves.

Outside of that, I don't really have any guesses.

Good luck!

Good thought. Sometimes I look too deep into things.

Get some new seeds. Spread them out evenly in the compartments of an ice cube try. Fill with water and freeze overnight. The next day, plant all the seed ice cubes.

Ugh. They are, and it's a brand new packet.

I'm also from LI. I was hoping to get them planted by the end of May, but they're inside under grow lights until then.

Wife places tomato and cuke seeds onto wet paper towel and covers with another wet towel. keeps them moist for few days at home, till they start sprouting. Then she reseeds them into coffee cups with quality soil.
Lately she did that mini nursery with water bottles cut in a half and top placed upside down into water filled bottom, with water wick. Worked well actually. Plenty of info on this online.

My seeds came up in a matter of a few days, planted them on 4/15/17. Some were up on 4/20 and all were up on 4/21.

When I plant I use Gatorade bottles as mini greenhouses. I cut the bottom off and discard the top.

Both pictures attached were taken on 4/24. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th rows are cukes. Only the two on the left of your screen in the 3rd row (middle of the 5 rows) were store bought plants, the rest are from seed. The front and back rows are not cukes (lettuce that has still not come up - old seed, I think) The other picture is just a shot from above of one seedling.

Could be the variety, I grow only the small lunch box size cukes.
