Hi all,

So I'm attempting to propagate leaves of my kalanchoe tomentosa. It's been in bad shape but was a bit leggy, so I snipped off four leaves with sharp kitchen scissors. That was on Saturday.

I placed the four leaves on the kitchen windowsill where the light can reach them. I'm unsure of how to proceed from here. From what I've read, the standard procedure for succulent propagation is to remove leaves cleanly, set out to "dry" for a week, then place over soil and mist with spray bottle. But will this work? How often do you mist it?

Would it work with leaves from a kalanchoe tomentosa in bad condition? Did I mess up already?

When you let the leaf cutting rest, do it in dim light, not bright light. It will be healing the cells where you did the cutting. After 4-7 days, put it halfway into the moist soil. Keep the soil barely moist. Do not disturb the leaf at all once it is pushed into the soil. Wait. Wait. Wait. All you can do is hope. Good luck.

Oh, crap. Would it work to move the cuttings to my bedroom windowsill? It gets less sun than the kitchen. Since I live in Washington, there's less sun than most places anyway, but I don't want to take any chances.

So I should not be able to see the cutting once I place it in the soil? Can I place two or more in the same pot of soil?

Thanks!

OP, follow these instructions. Watch the misting/watering, they rot easily.

Thanks. Should I not mist it daily? How long does that type of soil take to dry? I won't be taking it outside as it rains a lot here.

I'm thinking I'll put them in soil Friday or Saturday.

Are the cuttings supposed to grow roots before being misted?
