Please take a look at the 2 pics and tell me.

I planted this plant/tree about 20 yrs ago and it's never did anything about bearing fruit and (of course) I never fertilized it at all so....it's pretty hard to the touch, harder than a normal lime at the grocery store.

As far as fertilizer I wouldn't know what to put on it.

When you planted it 20yrs ago, where did you get the tree originally? I don't know much about citrus and wonder if it's possible that they can cross-breed.

There is special fertilizer for citrus.

That's very thick rind. Is the actual flesh juicy, or dry? Did you try it to see what the flesh tastes like?? Could it be the fruit is not yet ripe, that you picked it too early??

Here is a page that may help ID, though I don't see exactly what you are showing in that picture.

It was a plant ranch and he gave it to me for what reason I don't remember but we did buy a lot of other bushes. I planted it in my back yard where it doesn't get a lot of sun and didn't think it would even survive.

It smells a little like a lemon or lime and somewhat dry.

Looks to be a dwarf bears/Mexican lime. Pithy usually means on the tree too long.

It looks like a lime, but of the tree has been there for 20 years and that is all you've gotten from it, I suggest that you tear it out and plant something there that likes the conditions.
