Could happen anywhere but be careful in North Carolina. We have many poisonous snakes.

Wow

Poor guy. That had to have been painful! I would never have expected to find a snake in the garden center at Lowe's or whatever other store I was shopping at.

I do remember copperheads from living in the South for a while. I never was bitten by one but they seemed pretty plentiful in the Carolinas and in Kentucky. I have quite a few great photos of copperheads that I took in my travels because of their different reactions to people approaching. They are different from a lot of other snakes because they freeze when they are approached rather than flee and unfortunately that creates problems when people don't notice them until it's too late.

The only venomous snake in my area is the Eastern Massasauga rattler and they are really rare. I finally found one after looking off and on for a couple of years.

Hopefully the man bit by the copperhead recovers quickly.

I was thinking the same thing and it makes me wonder if all these stories are actually true?

"Is the patient completely alert?"

"Yes, he's walking around."

Holy cow!!

Poor fellow. However, if he survives this, he just won the Lowes Mega Lottery.

BTW, this happened two years ago. I'd love to hear how he's doing.

I doubt he won the Lowe's mega lottery unless he can prove Lowe's was somehow at fault. No garden center or nursery can make themselves snakeproof. Snakes do move around on their own especially where snakes are not uncommon and most are very well camouflaged. That snake may not have been there more than a couple of hours. Do you expect employees to walk around and inspect every plant in a nursery every few hours and look for snakes? How is Lowe's negligent unless they knew the snake was there and didn't remove it. That's unreasonable.
Lowe's probably paid for his medical bills and nothing else. That's hardly winning the Lowes mega lotto.

All depends on the lawyer......remember Disney couldn't write the check fast enough for the kid that got grabbed by a gator on their property.

Jackie Chiles would get the man his money!

That has a lot to do with Public Relations as well. Also if I remember correctly, there were reports of a gator being in that water before that kid was taken and Disney didn't do anything about it. Those are two very different circumstances. BTW, I doubt either Lowes or Disney is lacking very smart lawyers too.

I had a rat run past my hand grabbing a bag of birdseed at Lowes a couple of weeks ago. There were actually several. They said there's not much they can do to keep them out. I would presume that the amount of rodents there would attract a few snakes too.
