We have had plenty of rain this summer....torrential even. All herbs doing well except...

The first basil planted succumbed to bugs.

The second was doing ok until more rain. Even though I sprayed with fungicide to combat effects of moisture this plant too just failed. Had also sprayed for bugs. It does get less than full sun.

Anyone else experience this failure of potted basil in rainy weather?
I'm going to buy one plant from the grocery store just to have a few leaves now and then...

Actually the more rain we get the better my basil is doing. all my herbs look pretty good this year, but my basil is doing so well I can't hardly keep up with it.

Mine had fungus on a few lower leaves about 2 weeks after planting. I picked off all the affected leaves and gave it some manure. It's done great. Basil needs frequent feeding. I also find the smaller leaved varieties are more resistant to fungus. Good luck!

My basil is not as healthy as usual this year, but I think it's because we've had the second hottest summer on record and I'm not taking great care of my garden because I can't stand the heat myself. My chile peppers are really enjoying the weather though. I water once a day.

Oh I feel for you...that weather. I would not want to be out in it either, for gardening....

I had fabulous basil lasts year - it grew like kudzu in my container. After using it all summer in pastas and other stuff, I made a big batch of pesto at the end of the summer.

This year it's anemic. It LOOKS great, if you thought it had been planted 3 weeks ago. It's vibrant green, healthy looking, about 2 inches tall. Since early April.

You know the saying - plants either grow or they die. Not this basil. Bupkus.

Edited to add: Wow. I just went out and looked at it, and in the last 3 days or so it's taken on a new life. Grown a couple inches, has new growth leaves. Who knows?
