Other weeds I've been able to keep up with no problem. The grass has been a problem. Do I need to worry or will the plants do all right alongside it? Everything is taller than the grass so not a concern about sun.
Anything that competes with your vegetables should be removed. If the grass is far enough away from the vegetables, it should be okay, but if it's right where you water and feed the vegetables, it could be a problem. If you can't pull up all the grass, you could try cutting it short, then laying down layers of newspaper or cardboard on top of the cut grass, then covering that with a good layer of mulch. The grass will die under all that.

One of the big advantages to a drip irrigation system is that I get no weeds. The water goes to the roots of the vegetables, the rest of the soil stays bone dry.

I guess it doesn't rain often there. I've lived more than half of my life in the Mid-Atlantic area, and nothing is bone dry. Those pesky little weeds are all over the place.

Well, it does rain a lot, just not during our vegetable growing season, but with weed cloth and mulch only a few weeds will grow on the mulch and are easily removed.

Weed cloth + mulch = safe place for bermuda grass in the mid-Atlantic. I would highly recommend against inviting that monster into your garden.
