If the wood is still solid then you've got time to get plenty of quotes. You don't need an arborist for a take-down. You just need a tree removal company that is licensed and insured and has plenty of excellent reviews. The best time is early winter or even better, late winter when tree companies are hungry for work. If the tree is sturdy and not menacing your or your neighbor's house, I'd get quotes and wait until then - it will probably be cheaper. I had a massive tree taken down right behind my house February 2019 and the guy went bananas with the stump grinding - I had to stop him from grinding it too low (he was digging a hole in the ground.) The area he ground out is over 6 feet across! That cost me $1800 total and he was literally dropping huge chunks of branches right outside the back door; it was that close to the house.
